IEP Goals

All students entering Minnesota North Star Academy will have an interim (short-term) IEP meeting to review initial evaluation and former IEP records. The IEP team, which includes parents, the student, the teachers, and the evaluator, will develop a re-evaluation plan to assess the student's current performance level. This information will be embedded in the student's curriculum, with accommodations (if needed) to optimize the student's learning process.

What is an IEP?

An Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is developed when a student is identified with a disability. After an initial evaluation determines the student has a disability, the referral process guides implementation of the IEP. There are two types of IEPs - instructional and transitional.

Instructional IEP focuses on several areas of programming:

  • intellectual
  • academic
  • communication
  • motor
  • functional
  • sensory/health/physical status
  • social/emotional/behavioral development

The transitional IEP focuses on planning for post-secondary options, starting when a student has turned 14 years old. Five program areas are in the transitional IEP:

  • employment/job training
  • post-secondary
  • community participation
  • recreation/leisure
  • home/daily living
